RIP the King of Cling: Azzedine Alaia

Supermodels of the world Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington gleefully chasing each other throughout the narrow arrondissements of Paris encased in Alaia's sexy body-con outfits with all smiles and coquettish glances. They playfully tease men on the streets of Paris, dancing on tables and giving one lucky Frenchman a peck on the lips leavingt him floored and in a state of shock.

Daring, Empowering, and Sensuous.

The three words synonymous with the late and great couturier Azzedine Alaia.

Azzedine Alaia, who passed today at 77, was a master couturier with quiet confidence. He took his background in sculpting to create the perfect silhouettes of sensuality for the female form. His legacy will never be forgotten as women to this day don the body-con silhouette. They must thank this man in black who celebrated our curves.

The M2M documentary of Alaia features rare archival footage by another sensuous creative, photographer Ellen Von Unwerth, who captures the designer behind the scenes. It was quite sad for me to watch this. I don't own any of his clothes nor do I really want to, but a pang of sadness came over me; that feeling we all feel when a fellow human exits our world. I do give him credit and will always admire him for giving women the outlet to celebrate our curves and sexuality through his clothing and aesthetic.
