Fashion Week and Style Fashion Week- Los Angeles 2015

Did fashion week 2015 go by without you noticing any event invites on Facebook?  Fashion Week and Style Fashion Week are exciting events that take place in a two week span early every year.  They set the tone for that particular year's street and runway fashion.  People think that these events are really exclusive and only celebrities attend in their finest garb, but almost anyone can attend if they plan on documenting the night in some way.  These events are also free most of the time if but you do have to register or RSVP so that the venues can follow safety codes.  It's reasons like this that the events seem very hush hush.  Like most well planned events, they are confronted with a lot of red tape that can limit the glamour and scale that fashion events have in other countries.  Often times, designers come from abroad to show their best work so there's a lot at stake.  This in not the kind of event that can afford to get shut down by police.  While these events are more revered in Milan, Paris, London, and New York, Los Angeles does have aspirations for greatness in the fashion realm.  Here are some of the highlights from LA's premier fashion shows in early 2015:

CAMELIA SKIKOS X WHICHKIM brought their European sensibilities to LA Fashion Week.  The grid-like presentation put this retro-futuristic display on another plane.

The stark contrasts and pops of metallic texture make this fall/winter collection very versatile and accessible for simple and pure displays of image expression.

EVENT: FRE(N)SH

LOCATION: THE WELL

CURATED BY: LE FRENCHLAB

DESIGNERS/COMPANY: FAUBOURG DU TEMPLE, SHOES CLOSET, & LE SHORT

The FRENCHLAB collective really outdid themselves in every way for LA Fashion Week.  Every detail from the hair styles to the beverages was clearly meditated and well executed for a truly pleasant experience that was absolutely free.  In a similar vein as CAMELIA SKIKOS X WHICHKIM, the designs employed color contrast with square shapes versus circular shapes, but with a jaunty twist.  These are a little more street ready while using an almost identical bag of tricks.

The feel of this collection rendered the odd shapes of the pieces into accessible inspiration for many style watchers whose wardrobes are informed by the past.

ON THE STREET

These striking vendors take their runway savvy and throw some bondage over it for a hint of kink at Dripped 2015.  They take the pallid and prudish displays of high fashion and bear their chests, waist lines, and tan lines.

ON THE RUNWAY

EVENT: CONCEPT

LOCATION: BEACHWOOD STUDIOS

DESIGNER/COMPANY: JEN AWAD

JEN AWAD brought out the go go boots for a 70s disco romp, infusing the energy back into these smoldering skirt suits.  Her prima donnas dishevel their natural hair to a driving beat in metallic evening wear as well.

This beautifully crafted outerwear would make anyone squeal for its rich material and high-shoudered elegance.  Still, this perfectly fitted piece is anything but conservative.

ON THE STREET

SNATCH POWER beauties take the hot colors and metallic frocks of the runway and assemble them for their march of aesthetic liberation.  The impetus of these burlesque heroes is aired through radiotitans.com.

Solid red leather with matching headgear make their way onto the street in this stunning ensemble worn by an Ashton Michael lover at Dripped.

ON THE RUNWAY

EVENT: ART HEARTS FASHON

LOCATION: TAGLYAN COMPLEX

DESIGNER/COMPANY: SUE WONG

SUE WONG went for Neo-Hollywood fantasy with couture of epic proportions set to electrifying tones of theatre metal.  The sheer silhouettes glittered to double bass pedal beats, threatening with anamorphic sex appeal.

EVENT: ART HEARTS FASHON

LOCATION: TAGLYAN COMPLEX

DESIGNER/COMPANY: MNM COUTURE

MNM COUTURE used sheer full sleeves for that off the shoulder look that caries so well in black and white.  A sense of an uninterrupted and naturally flowing garment is achieved with three distinct fabrics accomplishing the perfect glove-gown.
